Setting Fixed Station Latitude & Longitude
This information is used to predict sun and moon rise and set times and might be required by services your weather information is sent to.
- On the Setup menu, click Sun/Moon Rise/Set.
- Enter Latitude and Longitude data. (Note: There is a link on the APRS setup page where you can get your latitude and longitude if you have difficulty determining it on a map.) Make sure you enter a negative number for southern hemisphere latitudes and if you are west of GMT (UK/England), like in the United States, then enter a negative number for the longitude. A setting sun or a rising sun appears.
Setting Fixed Station Elevation
This information is used to predict cloud heights and might be required by services your weather information is sent to.
- One the Setup menu, click Display Units Options / Reset times.
- In the Other Options section, enter your weather station's height above sea level (in feet).
Tracking a moving Station using GPS
This provides a way for mobile weather stations (e.g., storm chasers, fishermen, etc.) to report weather together with their current location.
- On the Setup menu, click GPS Data capture.
- Click the Com port settings tab.
- Select settings for you GPS receiver. 4800,8N1 are the normal settings for NMEA receivers.
- Select or clear DTR and RTS (the default might be both set to OFF). Some units require them to be ON to provide power, while others require they be OFF.
- Turn the green switch on, and then click the START button.
NMEA GPS should be flashing in the status.
Click the Satellites or NMEA GPS tab to see results.
Note: The receiver must provide a NMEA data stream.
